How to bid for public sector transport contracts
- Check your operator licence. GOV.UK says you need a PSV operator's licence to operate a vehicle for hire or reward that can carry 9 or more passengers, or a smaller vehicle carrying passengers and charging separate fares. Source: PSV operator licences (GOV.UK).
- Register on Find a Tender first. Under the Procurement Act 2023 notices are published on the central digital platform, and buyers must get confirmation that you have registered and submitted your core supplier information before you take part in a procurement. Yes, when a council or school publishes them on Find a Tender or Contracts Finder with transport services (CPV 60) as the main category. Many councils run dynamic purchasing systems (DPS) for school transport, which stay open for new suppliers to join.
Where are public sector transport contracts advertised?
In England, Wales and Northern Ireland most are published on Find a Tender (the central digital platform under the Procurement Act 2023) and lower-value ones also on Contracts Finder. Scottish buyers mainly use Public Contracts Scotland, and Welsh buyers also use Sell2Wales. This page lists transport notices from Find a Tender and Contracts Finder only.
